Karl Wiener

Pensive

I sat thoughtful on a stone,

felt me sad and all alone,

propped my elbows on my knees

and my hands cupped chin and cheeks.

I pondered on the way of life,

for that, I found not an advice.

Thank God!, for slavery has gone,

but money rules the world alone

and financial dependence

turns someone else into servants.

Some people dream to go

from rags to riches, though

none of them keeps in view,

that, if his selfish dream comes true,

by the fulfilment of this wish

someone becomes impoverished.
