Justine Knolle

Thought-Daughter

When you walk down the street
Do you go down the middle,
Or more towards the side?
And, would you do the same,
If you were my groom,
And I’d be your bride?
Would you look me in the eye,
And say the magic word?
The one you’ve never spoken.
The one I’ve not yet heard?
And would you then carry me
Step by step,
Tread by tread,
To where stands before us
Our nuptial bed?
Would I then conceive our child?
With your blue eyes,
My cheeky smile?
With her spirit of silver,
And soul of gold,
She’ll keep us happy
As we grow old.
