Werner Kemper

A Fine Romance

She was 33, and the sweetness had already

Faded from her face

And so the first kiss tasted

Bitter

Still, we slugged it

Out

For three-and-something weary years

Until I, too,

had lost my dance

Finally, the two of us parted

Over a couple of sour martinis
