Irene Beddies

A Love...long time ago

During dreamy moments I blink
when I hold breath under my tasks
and myself a fool I think
that my heart remembers and asks
what forced me to be devoted to you.

Hadn’t I lived composed and content
with my family and my profession?
All was changed when I went
to your country to get the impression
how young I still could be loving you.

Since then I’m no longer the same.
I looked upon my life with troubled eyes
worried and uneasy when I came
back home bound by older ties,
hoping to overcome my passion for you.

Time is healing, now I feel sound.
But every now and then I smile
in remembrance of a happy day.
Within everyday life a safe isle
is this recollection. I pray
it’ll stay a treasure on my mind’s ground.
