Justine Knolle

Travel Companion

Join me on my journey

Taking the chemin de fer!

I shall remove my hat,

So the wind ruffles my hair.

We will travel to Orléans,

Toulouse, and Cahors.

Where we will drink wine,

Eat baguette with Roquefort.

We will walk through the vineyards,

The valleys, and the hills.

Amaze at the haciendas,

The castles, and the mills.

We will ride through the meadows,

You and me, on horseback.

Down through shadowed lanes,

And up the stony tracks.

We will feast on the harvest,

On apples and on corn.

We will ride until sunset,

And sleep until dawn.

We bathe in the river.

Its waters fresh and cool.

Wash the fruit in waterfalls,

Our clothes down in the pool.

We continue our trip,

Past churches and farms.

And, happy and tired,

I fall asleep in your arms.
