Anna Weithaas-Lachtrup

Cage

Little birdie in a cage, aren’t you a pretty thing?

They broke your wings, so they could always here you sing.

Little birdie in a cage, your songs sorrowful and empty.

You pace the cage, starring at the world beyond-

Dreaming of tasting its freedom one last time.
