Stephanie Fuchs

Daybreak

Heavy feet carry me

through transparent darkness;

wandering in unknown territory

of lost promises

and wishes

The voices of the possessed

push me forward;

Stumbling into shades

of light

and nowhereness

My bones crack

beneath your gentle paws,

as I remember my lilies

dying

in your garden

My hand reaches out

and disappears in emptiness

while heart-shaped leaves

cover these pictures

of you

The night claims its right

to die out

and gives way to a search

without voices

calling me to look

back
