Sandy Lindahl

Who´s that sleeping on my Couch?

This is the story of how we met.  After my first year of college I sublet a house with my best friend, Sam, in my hometown.  Sam is a girl, her name is Sandy too but her Dad gave her the nickname Sam years ago.

Anyway, we sublet this house from some guys that had gone to college in St. Cloud, my hometown.  They left and went away for the summer and we moved in.  Sam and I each found jobs, she at a bank and me at Sears in the accounting department.  We used to play a card game every morning called Nuts (double solitaire) over coffee and raisin toast.

One morning as we came downstairs to go to work Sam saw a guy sleeping on the couch.  (we didn’t lock the doors back then)  She didn’t pay any attention to him but when I came down I went over to them and started poking him in the arm.  He woke up and I said “Who the hell are you?”  He looked up at me and said “Who the hell are you?”  I said I live here, he said what happened to the other guys who lived here?  Apparently he had known the guys that we sublet from and expected them to still be living there when he came into town in the middle of the night.

I had to go to work and asked if he would he like some coffee.  We chatted for a while. He had just come from Colorado in his Volkswagen camper bus with speakers all over the place and headphone jacks in between the front seats.  I think I made him some breakfast.  Then he asked me if I wanted to go fishing.  Why not!  This would be the first time I’d ever put a gone fishing sign on my door.  My friends love this story.

We’ve been together now 40 years.
