The Leaf




The Leaf
 
 
A golden leaf
lies on the ground
fragile and light.
 
Its life was brief
as it was bound
to seasons’ flight.
 
 
Released by Spring
   out of its bud
 it saw of late
 
the Summer King.
Now in the mud
it has no weight.
 
 
But lying there
within the dirt
it touches my heart,
 
And I become aware
nothing can hurt
Nature’s work of art.
